Integrated Condition Monitoring Yields Enhanced Plant Performance
By Manas Basu-GITC Metals, Rockwell Automation India Pvt. Ltd

ABSTRACT
In today’s competitive business environment and rising energy prices, it has become more important for the manufacturer to maximize the asset performances and hence Condition Monitoring technologies for rotating equipments are becoming an integral part of the automation systems. In Metals and Cement industries production processes are driven by various heavy machineries like Compressors, Fans, Mills, Pumps, Crushers etc and any sudden failure of such equipments will call for a massive production loss.
Condition Monitoring is an effective method for maximizing “Return On Net Assets (RONA)” and also improves “Overall equipment effectiveness (OEE)”.

Successful commissioning of SteelPlanner at major steel produced in China
By Kurt Pressberger, SteelPlanner consultant AIS Advanced Information Systems GmbH Co

ABSTRACT
In 2007, a major steel produced in China - 10 million tons of steel products with 109 billion RMB revenue and 4.3 billion RMB profit - was forced to move hot strip mill and plate mill production from Beijing to alternate sites in China. The deadline was the 1 st of April 2008 for a full running MES integrated with SAP (ERP) and all level-2 controlled systems. Both implementations were green field projects.
In order to bring this project to a success in the MES area, the customer selected the SteelPlanner solution, which has already been proven as a top-class MES system for the steel industry. The project was run successfully by AIS together with its local partners as well as with the strong involvement of the Customer’s IT Group.
